ARTIST STATEMENT
Artists are thinkers. Film for me has always been a gateway to thought, a transport where image and idea can reveal an invisible path concealed within memory, moment, and motion. I attempt to create an experience that points the way through that gateway. Above all, my work is intended to create an object or space that allows the viewer to exercise their individual thought process; to dislodge, unlearn, find freedom and ultimately gain access to the creative self.

Much of my work is built around a fascination with symbols and an interest in observational cinematography. The symbols act, for me, as an omphalos from which a piece can generate. I look to the life of this center to give way to willful observation, collective memory, and the poetry of ideas. From this point the experience is created from what is innate, what is learned, and what is genuine. I use image play, layered with contrast, conflict, and visual slant rhyme to casts a genre neutral spell while a transmuted refrain whispers temporal logic. I search for order created from gravity, light and time, allowing an unbridled linear structure to yield its dialect to poetic caprice and mythic cadence. My aim is to infuse the unknowable invisible presence onto the mind and awaken epiphany and empathy via the creative self; thus allowing escape (if be it momentary) from the cotemporary morass, and then entrance into an uncompromised space to think.

Thought is freedom.
